Henry Golding's 312 month-old newborn daughter is on the move these days, and he's putting his newfound movie ninja abilities to good use at home.

“She's already turning over on her own,” says the narrator. With a grin, the Malaysian-born star of "Snake Eyes" (in cinemas Friday) says, "So I'm rushing around the room, making sure she doesn't roll onto something or of something."

In the “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” the “Crazy Rich Asians” heartthrob gets his first main acting role. Based on the 1980s toy and television phenomenon, “Joe Origins” is a martial-arts adventure. As Snake Eyes travels to Tokyo with his companion Tommy (Andrew Koji) to study the techniques of the Arashikage clan and take on worldwide terrorists, Golding gives the silent masked commando a voice and a face.

Instead of just turning Snake Eyes into a human weapon, "we've given him a life - a life that he's led miserably thus far." “He's a person who's made a lot of errors,” Golding, 34, adds. “We look up to these superheroes and crazy metahumans, but we can never find instances where we think to ourselves, ‘Hey, yes, he made the same mistake I did,' or ‘He's done some pretty horrible things, but he deserves a second chance.' I adore that.”

Golding, who was born in England and raised there until he was eight years old, currently lives in Los Angeles with his wife Liv Lo and daughter Lyla. In that "babymoon phase," Golding recalls, he took up mountain biking and surfing, "amped up" his computer-game abilities, and also souped-up a Jeep for excursions to Yosemite National Park and Big Sur. “There was a silver lining in the midst of the chaos.”

Golding, who will next be seen in Netflix's adaptation of Jane Austen's "Persuasion" starring Dakota Johnson, spoke with USA TODAY about "Snake Eyes," becoming a new father, and whether we may anticipate a sequel to "Crazy Rich."
