Mat George, the co-host of the podcast ‘She Rates Dogs,' died at the age of 26.
Mat George, the online celebrity who co-hosted the famous podcast She Rates Dogs, died early Saturday morning in the Beverly Grove district of Los Angeles after being involved in a hit-and-run incident. He was 26 years old at the time.
George’s death was confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department and his She Rates Dogs co-host, Michaela Oakland.
“Prefer than reading a news story, I'd rather you hear it from me. “Last night, Mat was killed in a hit-and-run,” Oakland said on Twitter. “At this point, I'm at a loss for words. I wish I could call everyone who knows him, but the word has already spread, and I just cannot do so at this time.”
According to the LAPD, George was struck by a white BMW motorist about 2:20 a.m. At the time of the incident, he was walking southbound on Croft Avenue in an unmarked crosswalk. The pedestrian was declared deceased at the scene by paramedics.
George, an ASU alumnus, was also renowned for his Instagram and Twitter accounts, both of which used the name @matchu curtain. His podcast with Oakland focuses on "the adventure and mistakes of dating guys," as well as a variety of current events and basic life advice.
Fans recalled George for his warmth, sensitivity, and sense of humor. The memorial's plans have yet to be revealed.
George's death is still being investigated. Anyone with information on Friday night's Beverly Grove hit-and-run can contact the LAPD's West Traffic Division at 213-473-0234 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
