Listen to a sneak peek of Lady Gaga's last recording with Tony Bennett.
Lady Gaga has teased the release of her forthcoming album, a compilation of Cole Porter standards starring Tony Bennett, the famous performer. This is also Bennett's final recording before his retirement earlier this year due to Alzheimer's illness. Bennett's 95th birthday is August 3rd, and the release honors him.
Bennett and Gaga perform 10 of Cole Porter's most well-known songs in Love For Sale, including "De-Lovely," "Let's Do It," "I've Got You Under My Skin," and "Love For Sale." Gaga abandons her pop belting for a smokier, jazzier sound with Bennett's clean baritone on the album's first track, "I Get a Kick Out Of You." Bennett and Gaga had previously worked together on a jazz CD, Cheek to Cheek in 2014.
We're also glad to announce that Gaga has retained the queerness in her art, as is her custom. Cole Porter, who is widely regarded as one of America's finest composers, was a homosexual man who reveled in incorporating sexual allusions into his songs. Kiss Me, Kate, Anything Goes, and Silk Stockings are among his Broadway credits.
Listen to it and resist the want to put on a pinstripe suit, make a martini, and head to a speakeasy. It's a lovely farewell for Mr. Bennett, and Lady Gaga has done it again.
