Following the success of the KGF franchise, Hombale Films is gearing up for the release of Salaar, directed by Prashanth Neel and starring Prabhas. Around 30% of the film has already been filmed, and the crew is now working to finish it by the end of the year in time for a summer 2023 release. The stakes will be enormous, as it represents the coming together of two powerhouses.
"We have set the bar very high for Salaar," Hombale Films' Vijay Kiragandur confesses. On the one side, we have Prabhas, who stars in India's most popular film (Bahubali 2), and on the other, we have Prashanth Neel and Hombale, who produced India's second most popular film (KGF 2). This is a lethal combo that will be difficult to overcome. The combination has generated a buzz, and now that we've set the standard so high, we'll do all we can to meet it. Salaar will help us achieve something significant."
The news that Malayalam actor Prithviraj Sukumaran will play a crucial part in the film has created quite a stir in the media. In one of his interviews, Prabhas also verified this development. "We haven't formally disclosed the development," Vijay explains, "but yeah, Prabhas did mention him." We're in talks with Prithviraj and he'll most likely appear in our film. We're still talking to him, so he hasn't started filming yet. He'll absolutely be a member of Salaar if the dates work out. He even had a few rounds of conversation with our director. His presence will greatly enhance the film."
Hombale Films had previously stated that the first teaser for Salaar will be released in May. However, the original idea has been altered. "The teaser will not be available this month." We'll release the teaser on a specific day, but we're still working out the details."
