Kim Kardashian has received a stop and desists notice for her SKKN trademark.
Kim Kardashian has a lot of skin in the cosmetics game, but her most recent effort has encountered a hitch.
After the cosmetics entrepreneur submitted a trademark application for both SKKN and SKKN by KIM, her legal team got a stop and desist letter from Beauty Concepts LLC, which claims to have previously secured the name for the salon, skincare, and spa services.
Beauty Concepts owner Cyndie LunsfoThe reality personality applied to use the now-disputed brand for skincare, haircare, nail care, fragrances, and candles. Beauty Concepts is now demanding that she discontinue the logo, alleging that it would confuse customers.
“I carefully created my successful little business with my own sweat equity, hard work, and research,” said Lunsford, a 28-year-old aesthetician, and entrepreneur who also runs SKKN+ social media profiles.
“It is evident that I initially created my brand.” rd says in the July 21 letter received by Page Six Style that she has been operating salons under the SKKN+ brand name since 2018.
The business also stated that they submitted a trademark application for the SKKN+ moniker on March 28, just days before Kardashian registered her own trademark on March 30.
Kardashian's attorney, Michael G. Rhodes, told TMZ, "We absolutely respect and support small companies, and our hat is off to Ms. Lunsford." But the issue at stake is one of trademark law, and we have done nothing to merit her legal action.”
“We are unhappy that she opted to go to the media knowing that we were planning a call for tomorrow, as requested by her attorney,” he said. So, while we disagree with the letter, we hope that once all parties talk, we can smooth things over.”
Kardashian is presently revamping her KKW Beauty company, and the site will be closing down on August 1. According to Page Six, her ex, Kanye West, assisted her in coming up with a new moniker for the line, however, it is unclear if that name was SKKN.
The stop and desist notice is the latest legal snafu for Kardashian's businesses: Seed Cosmetics, the beauty incubator business that developed both Kylie Cosmetics and KKW Beauty, sued Coty, the brands' parent company, in June 2020 for allegedly stealing trade secrets.
Kylie Cosmetics has also recently redesigned its products, offering vegan formulations and new packaging, but it is unclear whether the changes are connected to the case.
Kardashian's representative declined to speak further on the subject.
