After her mother blasted her post-plastic surgery image on The Hills, Heidi Montag confessed Heidi Montag didn't talk to her mother for two years.
The reality star spoke with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast about the consequences of having ten medical operations in one day in 2010. Heidi Montag was just 23 years old at the time, but Heidi Montag was already a household celebrity owing to her appearances on MTV's Laguna Beach spin-off series The Hills.
Heidi Montag's mother, Darlene Egelhoff, was not pleased with Heidi Montag's new look, despite the fact that Heidi Montag gladly went under the knife and spoke about it on The Hills. Through tears, Egelhoff told Heidi Montag, "I mean, how do I go and say that, of course, I thought you were more beautiful before?"
Heidi Montag told Cooper on Call Her Daddy that the incident was especially traumatic since Heidi Montag had begged her mother not to shoot with her on The Hills if Heidi Montag couldn't be supportive.
"'Hey, I'm extremely vulnerable right now,' I told my mother before we started filming. I'm having trouble speaking. My jaw is hardly moving. All of these operations were performed on me recently. Don't film with me if you can't rally behind me and support me. It's not worth it, I said. I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be able to speak with you right now.' "Heidi Montag clarified "And after that, I didn't speak to her for two years because I informed her ahead of time, and Heidi Montag said, 'I'm not going to be that way.'"
Heidi Montag admitted, "I was heartbroken." "In my whole life, I had never felt more heartbroken."
Heidi Montag also said that, while celebrities are more open (to a degree) about cosmetic surgery now than they were in 2010, Heidi Montag was far from the only one who underwent significant surgery.
"People have been getting surgery since the dawn of Hollywood," Heidi Montag added. "That day, I had probably as many operations as A-list actors... It was also free. Do you think I would have had all of that surgery if it hadn't been for it? Not at all. That's a lot of money. It was probably in the neighborhood of $200,000 or more... What I did cost a lot of money. And then it cost me a lot more to accomplish it. It cost me my job at the time, as well as my mother and family."
Heidi Montag, who currently co-stars with her husband Spencer Pratt on The Hills: New Beginnings, revealed in a 2019 interview with Cosmopolitan that her desire for plastic surgery stemmed from online criticism of her appearance.
Heidi Montag told the magazine, "I was much too young to make such a life-changing decision." "I was under a lot of pressure since it was the beginning of the internet's comment sections, negativity, and hatred."
"If you're having those kinds of thoughts and issues, it's important to seek advice from those you love and professionals who want to help," Heidi Montag told the outlet, adding, "If you're having those kinds of thoughts and issues, it's important to seek advice from those you love and professionals who want to help." Figure out why you feel that way and what’s behind it."
