This week's new music poll was won by The Weeknd's song "Take My Breath."
In a poll published on Billboard on Friday (Aug. 6), music fans chose the R&B superstar's synth-heavy track as their favorite new music release of the previous week.
"Take My Breath," which is dripping with disco production, received 57 percent of the voting, beating out new songs from Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett ("I Get a Kick Out of You"), Aventura and Bad Bunny ("Volvi"), Nas (King's Disease II), Guns N' Roses ("Absurd"), and others.
The Weeknd's first new song since the release of his fourth album, After Hours, in March 2020, debuted at No. 1 in at least 20 places, including the United States, where it became the 31-year-old Canadian singer's fourth number one.
The enthralling new track is accompanied by a cinematic video directed by Cliqua and produced by Roisn Audrey Moloney with Somesuch, which comes with a strong seizure warning owing to its extreme strobing effects.
"The dawn is coming," The Weeknd said at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards in May.
"I simply want to announce that the After Hours are over and the morning is approaching," he remarked after earning the Top Hot 100 Song award for his blockbuster track "Blinding Lights," which made history by being the first song to stay a year in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.
Gaga and Bennett's latest duet, "I Get a Kick Out of You," came in second with over 21% of the vote in the previous week's count. The famous rendition was released on Bennett's 95th birthday and is the first single from the duo's Cole Porter tribute album, Love for Sale, which will be released on October 1.
The upcoming release -- which is set to be Bennett's final studio recording, following his Alzheimer's diagnosis -- is a follow-up to the duo's Billboard 200-topping Cheek to Cheek album in 2014, which won the Grammy for a best traditional pop vocal album.
