Wizkid takes the Apple Music Artist of the Year ahead of a world-record-breaking performance in London.

Wizkid takes the Apple Music Artist of the Year ahead of a world-record-breaking performance in London.

Wizkid has been voted Apple Music's Artist of the Year, following his second consecutive sold-out event at London's O2 venue (Africa).

His hit song "Essence" was streamed over 125 million times on Apple Music and received over 2.8 million Shazams, earning him this honor.

At the revised awards, Olivia Rodrigo, H.E.R., and The Weeknd all took home important prizes. The Weeknd has been named the year's global artist.

When the Nigerian afrobeat musician, real name Ayodeji Balogun, takes the stage at the legendary venue tonight, he will become the first African performer to deliver three straight sold-out gigs.

The Rolling Stones, Rihanna, and Beyoncé have all performed at the O2 in the past.

The event was also sold out by Nigerian performers Davido, Burna Boy, and Tiwa Savage.

On the first two nights, the "Essence" singer went all out as he welcomed a slew of acts to the stage, including Chris Brown.

Although the crowd erupted in applause as the "No Guidance" singer hit the stage, some have questioned why he was brought out.

Brown had not performed in the UK in over a decade due to a travel ban he received after pleading guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.

Nigerian newcomers Lojay, Buju Tems, and Oxlade were among the other guests. Wizkid was joined on stage by Skepta and Ella Mai, who are both featured on his Grammy-nominated album "Made In Lagos: Deluxe Edition."

"2018 I was at @wizkidayo's first O2 arena concert, and I kept telling myself that one day I would be on that stage, but I didn't know how.

"Yesterday I stepped on that f...ing stage and the whole arena was shaking! Manifestation is everything!!!! 😭❤️"

Wizkid claims he won't be bringing any visitors or friends to the third and final gig at the arena on Wednesday, and that he'll be performing "Made In Lagos" from beginning to end.

The organisers have promised tighter security measures for tonight's concert after reports of dozens of unticketed supporters assaulting the entrance gates during the first show.
