Scarlett Johansson recalls being "very upset" at being passed over for the role of Natasha Romanoff.
Surprisingly, Scarlett Johansson, well recognized for her performance in Marvel's Black Widow, was not the first option for the character of Natasha Romanoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actress recently revealed that she was initially turned down for the job. The 36-year-old actress told BBC Radio 1 via Screen Rant that she was "very upset" when she didn't get the part, but that it "happens all the time."
“I was a huge admirer of Iron Man 1 when it originally came out. And I really wanted to work with Jon [Favreau] and Robert [Downey Jr.], so I was disappointed when I didn't get the part, which happens all the time,” Scarlett added. “Then, many weeks later, I was fateful —, the actor who was initially cast in the part was unable to do so due to a scheduling problem. So Jon phoned me and we hooked up again, and I told him, 'Yes, I'm still quite available,' she explained.
“If someone ever asks me for advice on how to make it as an actor, I always tell them, 'Every opportunity is an opportunity to work, and you'll never receive a better call than when you thought you'd lost a job and then got it.' She said, "I was really happy to have a second go at it." If you didn't know, British actress Emily Blunt was given the part but had to decline due to schedule difficulties, since she had a contractual agreement to play in Gulliver's Travels at the time.
