‘Umbrella Academy’ Season 3: What you Need to Know
It's no surprise that fans of the second season of 'Umbrella Academy' demand more episodes. Everything you need to know about the show's future is right here.
Since Season 2 of Umbrella Academy premiered on Netflix on July 31, 2020, no new episodes have been published. While the superhero series, developed by showrunner Steve Blackman, was already renewed for a third season in November 2020, the COVID-19 epidemic temporarily interrupted production, causing everything to be a little behind schedule. But don't worry: we've got everything you need to know about Season 3, including the release date, cast, narrative, and more!
The Show So Far
We're giving you a crash course on what's happened so far on the program for those who aren't aware — or for anyone who just wants a reminder on what's transpired so far on the show. The Umbrella Academy is set in a time and place when 43 women from all over the world gave birth at the same moment in the 12th hour of the first day of October 1989, despite having shown no signs of pregnancy. Seven of the 43 youngsters were adopted by millionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) and transformed into a superhero team dubbed "The Umbrella Academy" - thus the show's title.d
In any case, Hargreeves initially gave the kids numbers as names, but their robot-mother, Grace (Jordan Claire Robbins), later gives them names like Luther (Tom Hopper), Diego (David Castaeda), Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Robert Sheehan), Five (Aidan Gallagher), Ben (Justin H. Min), and Vanya (Jordan Claire Robbins) (Elliot Page). He then assigns six of the children to rescue the world (they are superheroes, after all), but Reginald separates Vanya from her brothers because she never seemed to possess any special abilities.
The first season, which debuted on Netflix on February 15, 2019, takes place in the current day, and much has transpired since the siblings were born. Luther is half-ape and has lived on the moon for four years, Allison is an actress, Vanya plays the violin, Klaus has a heroin problem, Five disappeared sixteen years ago, Ben died, but he's also a ghost who can only communicate with Klaus, and Diego has turned into a bit of a rebel. The estranged siblings meet for Reginald's burial after learning of his death. While doing so, Five appears from the future and warns of impending world disasters. Overall, the first season follows Reginald's newly reunited siblings as they struggle to piece together the puzzle of his life while navigating their own problematic relationships.
The second season, which premiered on July 31, 2020, picks up where the previous one ended. The Hargreeves siblings are compelled to journey back in time after failing to halt the apocalypse. Regrettably, they parted up and lived in Dallas in various years during the 1960s. Five arrived on November 25, 1963, in the midst of a nuclear holocaust, but after receiving assistance from Hazel, he returned 10 days later. Later, he was pursued by Swedish assassins, but he was able to locate his siblings. Unfortunately for him, they had all started new lives, so he spends the season attempting to reconnect them so that they may all prevent a new catastrophe. It seems like this is from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and they're living in a Hellmouth, but it's not. The program, on the other hand, is just as good. There's also time travel, which we enjoy.
Umbrella Academy Final Season
It's unclear whether Season 3 of Umbrella Academy will be the show's final season at this time, but we do know that it will include ten episodes. However, as previously stated, the COVID-19 epidemic wreaked havoc on the television and film industries, causing severe delays in production schedules. However, now that a large number of projects have reopened, we expect Season 3 of Umbrella Academy to premiere on Netflix in late 2021 or early 2022 at the absolute latest.
Elliot Page came to Instagram in February 2020 to share a shot from the Season 3 set. He captioned a shot of what seems to be a chair on set with the show's logo written on the back, "OMG we're back again." Prior to that, Justin H. Min teased that there will be new recruits to Season 3 by posting a photo of his fellow Sparrow Academy colleagues in their school uniform on Twitter. “Let the games begin,” Min wrote alongside the images from the set, which you can see below.

So, what more can fans look forward to in Season 3? The Handler (Kate Walsh) may have met her demise in Season 2 when she was shot by one-third of the "Ikea mafia," but that doesn't mean she's gone forever. She had previously survived a gunshot wound to the head. Simply refer to her as the small-screen Michael Myers, since no matter what has happened to her thus far, she always manages to return.
In addition, Justin H. Min will return for Season 3, although this time as a member of The Sparrow Academy rather than the Umbrella Academy. He won't be Ben any longer. Given his new hair and terrible attitude, we don't think so.
Grace (Jordan Claire Robbins) and Pogo (Adam Godley and Ken Hall) might potentially make a comeback, but nothing has been confirmed.
We'd want to see more of Lila Pitts as well (played by Ritu Arya). When Diego was sent back in time, she was a fellow prisoner at the psychiatric hospital where he ended up. She was actually working secretly for her adoptive mother, the Handler, so she and the Handler could both make a big comeback. But, like the others we've mentioned, there's no guarantee that one of them will return in Season 3.
Umbrella Academy Season 3 Cast
Variety earlier announced that Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cazzie David have joined the Season 3 cast. At the time, Netflix also published character descriptions, which you can read below:
Marcus, Sparrow #1 — "a charming, chiseled colossus" — will be played by Justin Cornwell (Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, I Am the Night). Marcus maintains the family together by being honest, moral, and demanding. He is as clever as he is powerful, graceful but lethal, calculating but sympathetic. Marcus is self-disciplined, logical, and in command. He exudes confidence and authority without ever raising his voice.”
Fei or Sparrow #3 will be played by Britne (The Path, Hunters). “Fei has a unique perspective on the world. She appears to be a misanthrope who would prefer be alone than spend time with you. Fei, on the other hand, wishes she had a buddy. Fei is usually the sharpest guy in the room, and he is eager to work things out. If you cross Fei, however, there will be no turning back since she will not stop until the task is completed.”
Alphonso or Sparrow #4 will be played by Jake (Designated Survivor, Suits). “Years of combating crime have left him with many visible reminders of his struggles on his face and body. Alphonso compensates by having a caustic and cutting sense of humor. A nice pizza and a six-pack of beer are the only things he enjoys more than verbally assaulting everyone who gets in his way.”
Sloane or Sparrow #5 will be played by Genesis (The Fugitive, Big Hero 6) “A romantic and a dreamer who senses a greater cosmic calling that drives her to travel the world and live a life outside of her background. Sloane is bound to the Academy by her duties to her family and her dread of breaching the family line. Sloane, on the other hand, has other ideas... and who knows, maybe one day she'll be courageous enough to act on them.” Jayme or Sparrow #6 will be played by Cazzie (86'ed, NY Times best-selling author of No One Asked for This). “Jayme is a recluse who hides behind a hoodie. She doesn't have to say much since she isn't required to. Jayme's growl is terrifying. If you catch sight of it, you'll dash across the street to avoid what's coming next. She spends much of her time with Alphonso, her sole companion, and is as sharp as a knife.”
