Megan Fox recounts going 'to hell for eternity ' on hallucinogenic tea with Machine Gun Kelly
During a recent Costa Rica trip with lover Machine Gun Kelly, actress Megan Fox "went to hell for eternity" after ingesting the psychedelic ayahuasca plant.
“So we traveled to Costa Rica to do ayahuasca with Indigenous people in an appropriate setting,” Fox said of the hallucinogenic drug used for medical purposes and spiritual rituals.
She said that she didn't know what she was getting herself into.
“I was thinking it was like glamping or something like that, but it was still going to be like some sort of five-star experience,” she told Arsenio Hall, who was guest presenting “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” of the trip. “And when you get there, you realize you're in the middle of nowhere, and you can't eat anything after 1 p.m. To acquire your water, you must go a long way. You can't shower since they're in the middle of a drought, therefore you can't use the water. You must treat the rainforest with respect. It's not exactly glamorous. It's all part of the process of making you vulnerable in order for you to submit to the experience.”
The event began with everyone queuing up and producing vomiting, including the 35-year-old actress, Kelly, 31, and 20 others.
After that icebreaker, the “Till Death” and “Transformers” star told Hall, “my vanity is gone, I've just done something in front of all of these strangers, and now I'm ready to really open up.”
According to her, the entire event lasted three days and three nights.
“Everyone's trip is different, but I went to hell for eternity on the second night,” Fox stated. “Just knowing there is no beginning, medium, or end is a pain in and of itself. So you've had a genuine ego death.”
According to one report in Vox, her experiences sounded similar to those of others who had engaged in this type of self-discovery. N, N-dimethyltryptamine, the major active component of ayahuasca, was found to help in neuron growth in research published late last year in the journal Translational Psychiatry.
The chemical is being studied for its possible utility in treating PTSD and other mental illnesses.
However, it goes much further than talk therapy or hypnosis could possibly go, according to Fox, who described the experience as transformational.
“It simply goes directly into your soul and brings you to the psychological cage you're in,” Fox explained. “So it's your own little hell, and I was certainly present.”
