This month marks a watershed moment in Patricia Heaton's life.

In a personal video posted on Saturday, July 10, the 63-year-old actor celebrated three years of alcohol-free living. Heaton addressed her fans in a brief video broadcast on Instagram as she proclaimed her achievement after completing a three-and-a-half-mile walk.

She said, "Hello buddies." “It's July, and we're celebrating our country's independence... and three years of sobriety for me. So I just wanted to share it with you and invite you to message me if you're doing it, if you're doing it now and need some support, or if you have any questions. “Have a wonderful day.”

When asked what she has changed about herself in the previous decade, the former "Everybody Loves Raymond" star confessed in an interview with Parade last summer that she had first quit drinking alcohol two years earlier.

“I miss it immensely, but I feel better at the end of the day,” she added. “I discovered that I was looking forward to drinks every night. If I go out to lunch, I'll probably have a glass of wine or Prosecco. Women who were moderate drinkers in their 30s and 40s are more likely to become alcoholics in their 50s and 60s, according to statistics.”

“I believe it's something about your children leaving the house and the things that used to anchor you are no longer there,” Heaton continued. You're feeling a little lost, so you grab for the bottle to help you relax.”

It was something she witnessed with her own family after her four children, whom she shares with her husband, David Hunt, left the pair as empty nesters.

“And when your hormones change, you can't metabolize alcohol the same way you could when you were younger,” she added, explaining why she made the decision she did. “I've quit, and my life has substantially improved. My children are in their mid-twenties, and by the time I have grandkids, I will most likely be in my seventies. I want to live a healthy lifestyle for them.”

Samuel David, 27, John Basil, 25, Joseph Charles, 24, and Daniel Patrick, 22, are Hunt and Heaton's four sons.

Heaton's conscious decision to live a healthy life is part of her second act, which inspired her new book, "Your Second Act," which is a compilation of stories and anecdotes about reinventing oneself later in life.

Heaton spent over two decades on television, playing TV mothers such as Debra Barone on "Everybody Loves Raymond" and Frankie Heck on "The Middle." Heaton became an empty nester in her real-life about the same time as the ABC hit ended in 2018, allowing her time to reflect on the things in her life that she put on hold to become a mother.

Last July, Heaton told TODAY Parents, "So many of us have had to make sacrifices in order to be present for our kids and to raise our kids, and they're sacrifices that most of us have joyfully done." “We didn't want to be anyplace else,” says the group. We didn't want to lose out on those priceless times with our kids.”

What about the rest of Heaton's second act? She participated in an online screenplay school, became the executive producer of her own program, "Carol's Second Act," began producing movies with her husband, and was able to participate in more humanitarian work by becoming a World Vision ambassador, in addition to quitting drinking alcohol.
