South Korean actor Ji Chang-Wook tests positive for Covid-19
SEOUL – South Korean actor Ji Chang-Wook has tested positive for Covid-19, making him one of the country's most well-known entertainers to contract the virus.
The heartthrob, who was set to star in the Netflix series Annarasumanar (The Sound Of Magic), is currently receiving therapy in seclusion, according to his agency Glorious Entertainment (July 26).
Ji, 34, reportedly took a test over the weekend and received a positive result on Monday, according to South Korean media.
Actor Hwang In-youp and actress Choi Sung-Eun, who co-starred with him, have subsequently tested negative.
As a result, filming for the Netflix series based on the famous webtoon Annarasumanara has been suspended.
Ji, who has starred in shows including Empress Ki (2013–2014) and Backstreet Rookie (2020), is the latest South Korean celebrity to test positive for Covid-19, prompting worries of a pandemic in the country's entertainment sector.
Covid-19 has been detected in Kim Sung-kyu, the leader of K-pop boy band Infinite, Lee Min-hyuk of boy band BtoB, and Doyoung and Junghwan of boy band Treasure.
Model Han Hye-jin, singer San of boy band Ateez, singer Hani of girl group EXID, and singer Seo In-young, previously of girl band Jewelry are among those who have contracted the illness.
Meanwhile, comedian Yoo Jae-suk of the show Running Man (2010-present) was found to be virus-free. While filming the variety program You Quiz On The Block, he came into touch with a proven case and was placed in quarantine.
Lee Jung-Jae, Jung Woo-sung, and Ju Ji-hoon were also found to be Covid-19 negative, after a crew member on the set of spy thriller Hunt was found to have the virus.
