Kathy Griffin admits to attempting suicide after becoming hooked on drugs.
Kathy Griffin described a harrowing episode in which she attempted suicide after developing a prescription medication addiction.
In 2020, the actress, who had just undergone lung cancer surgery, revealed she attempted suicide.
The star of My Life on the D-List stated in a Nightline interview that she slipped into a downhill spiral after receiving outrage for a 2017 picture in which she was clutching a fake severed head of Donald Trump.
"Suddenly losing all of my employment and being advised by individuals in my own business, 'It's finished, leave the country for five years.' You've brought our industry into disrepute,' and so forth. It had an impact on me "Griffin remarked.
"I came to a point where I agreed to some extent. Perhaps it's time for me to leave. And I've lived a wonderful life, and I don't believe there will be another chapter for me "she said.
Griffin also revealed how, despite never having consumed alcohol, she got "severely hooked to pharmaceutical drugs."
She went on to say that her addiction caused her to consider suicide. "I began to persuade myself that it was a good decision. I organized my living revocable trust. All of my ducks were in a row, "she stated "The entire message was written by myself. "I'll simply take a bunch of medications and go to sleep," I rationalized."
Griffin said she took 100 pills, fell down two flights of stairs, and then woke up and took more pills and fell again. She texted one of her doctors and was put on a 5150 psychiatric hold after that.
