Almudena Grandes is a writer. She died at the age of 61, after admitting that she had cancer last October. She had the ailment for a little over a year when a regular check-up revealed a cancerous growth, according to reports. She made the announcement in her weekly country column. She said in it that, while she had to write some "extremely intricate" essays throughout his life, none had been as difficult as that one.
She had a favorable outlook, according to the author.
But she didn't want to tell anyone about it right away since she needed time to "be silent."
Almudena Grandes was one of Spain's most widely read authors. His debut novel, The Ages of Lulu, was released in 1989 and won the La Sonrisa Vertical prize, bringing him national acclaim. Readers and critics have consistently applauded it since then.
After The Ages of Lulu, she went on to write seven additional books: I'll call you Friday, Malena is a Tango Name, Atlas of Human Geography, Rough Winds, Cardboard Castles, The Frozen Heart, and The Kisses on the Bread. She also released the story collections Women models and Way stations.
All of these books, together with their articles in The Weekly Country, established them as one of the most firmly established names in contemporary Spanish writing, with the broadest worldwide reach. Several of his novels have been adapted for the screen, starting with the first, directed by Bigas Luna and already contentious due to Angela Molina's refusal to act in it since she considered it "porn."
She has received numerous awards, including the Lara Foundation Award, the Madrid and Seville Booksellers Awards, the Rapallo Carige, and the Prix Méditerranée. Agnes and Joy (Madrid Critics Award, Elena Poniatowska Ibero-American Novel Award, and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Award), the first title in the Episodios de una Guerra Interminable series, was published in 2010 and was followed by The Jules Verne Reader (2012), Manolita's three weddings (2014), Dr. Garca's patients (2017; National Narrative Award), and Frankenstein's mother ( (2020).
After hearing the news, condolences poured in from all across the world. Characters from the worlds of culture and politics have expressed their displeasure with the news.
