Did Kris Wu, a Chinese-Korean actor, Try Suicide in Beijing Prison?

The Beijing police apprehended Wu Yi Fan, also known as Kris Wu, on July 31, 2021, following charges of rape and sexual harassment. 

Rumors abound on social media that Chinese music singer and actor Wu Yi Fan, better known by his stage name Kris Wu, attempted suicide within the prison camp. On accusations of alleged rape and sexual harassment, a former member of the KPOP boy group EXO was detained. The truth behind Kris Wu's attempted suicide is revealed here.

After a netizen posted that Kris Wu's suicide case was being investigated, rumors began to circulate. He shared a screenshot of a post on Weibo, a Chinese social media network, saying Kris Wu committed suicide within the prison institution.

"Apparently, he committed [himself] since he couldn't handle remaining in prison," he tweeted in response to the news. Later, confirmation and further information will be provided." It quickly went viral when several people duplicated it and believed Kris Wu had attempted suicide.

The Explanation

When the problem was brought to the attention of the media, the individual removed his tweet. He clarified that his tweet was based on hearsay and that he did not intend to cause any confusion. "I'm referring to a tweet that was removed. Please take the time to read everything carefully. I removed it to avoid further confusion, but I emphasized that it was not verified and that she had 'supposedly' committed.  I'm sorry for the confusion but PLEASE READ, it is not my responsibility to answer EVERT art," his follow-up tweet read.

Kris Wu's representative has yet to provide a remark on the matter. Kris Wu's whereabouts have remained a mystery even to jail officials. Beijing police apprehended him on July 31, 2021. He is accused of luring young ladies into having an intimate relationship with him. The matter is now being investigated.

It should be emphasized that the initial claim of sexual harassment was made on Weibo by a Chinese student. Kris Wu was well-known on the social media site, with more than 51 million followers on his Weibo profile. Kris Wu first took to Weibo to refute all of the charges leveled against him. His Weibo page, however, was taken down following his arrest.

Kris Wu's arrest drew the attention of the Communist Party's Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission. The agency issued the following statement: "It is important to follow Chinese regulations when on Chinese soil. We don't do anything improper; we don't indulge. The facts serve as the foundation, and the law serves as the criteria."
