The Home Alone mansion, which was the setting for a neglected, stranded (albeit fictional) child's valiant attempts to ward off a pair of unscrupulous villains, is now available for a one-night stay on Airbnb this Christmas season.
The Chicago home is being "given up" as part of a promotion for the new Disney+ film Home Sweet Home Alone, with Buzz McCalister, Macaulay Culkin's Kevin's older brother, serving as the "host" (actor Devin Ratray reprises his role as Buzz in Home Sweet Home Alone).
"This holiday season, we're following my little bro's rules," the listing says, "so feel free to consume junk food, watch trash on TV, borrow my father's aftershave, and create your own adventure with a famous battle plan as a guide." "Just stay out of my room," says the narrator.
Those interested in scheduling the unique one-night stay can do so starting December 7 at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT, with the stay scheduled for December 12. There are a few stipulations: As Airbnb points out, this is not a competition, so whoever wins the house will be responsible for their own travel arrangements, and according to a press release, taxes and fees in the amount of an undisclosed amount will be added to the $25-per-night price tag. (In addition, Airbnb will make a one-time payment to Chicago's La Rabida Children's Hospital.)
Also, the Home Alone residence will only be open to four guests, which is odd given that the McAllister family consisted of seven people, five of them were youngsters...
Regardless, the property will be decorated with lights and a Christmas tree for the one-night visit, and guests will be served pizza and microwaveable mac & cheese. Setting booby traps, a meet-and-greet with a tarantula (exactly like Kevin's in the movie), and a showing of Home Sweet Home Alone are among the activities. Guests will also receive a Lego Home Alone set to take home.
Those who intend to stay in the house must adhere to local, state, and federal safety regulations, as well as Airbnb's Covid-19 safety rules. If the stay must be cancelled due to illness, an Airbnb travel credit of $1,000 will be issued.
