After being pulled from ACL Fest and Lollapalooza, DaBaby apologizes for his "hurtful" statements.
After being banned from the Governors Ball music festival and Lollapalooza, rapper DaBaby is apologizing once more for his "hurtful and upsetting" homophobic statements made at Rolling Loud last month.
In a statement uploaded to Instagram on Monday, he said, "I want to apologize to the LGBTQ+ community." "I regret once more for my incorrect remarks regarding HIV/AIDS, and I recognise the importance of education in this area."
The six-time Grammy nominee, 29, came under criticism for making disparaging statements about HIV/AIDS during his concert at the Rolling Loud event in Miami last Sunday. Days later, he embroiled himself in more controversy with similar sentiments after releasing his NSFW song and music video "Giving What It's Supposed to Give."
"We enjoy AIDS, I'm on your (expletive), we won't go away," DaBaby raps in one scene in the music video, holding up a placard that reads "AIDS." A final screen states in rainbow-colored characters at the end of the video: "Fighting hatred with hate isn't a good idea. Please accept my apologies for being myself in the same manner that you desire the freedom to be yourself."
DaBaby apologized profusely on Monday, admitting that he needed "direction" on the subject and thanking those who had given "wisdom, education, and resources." Those who didn't receive a pointed message from the rapper.
"People want to destroy you before you ever have the opportunity to develop, educate, and learn from your mistakes because social media moves so quickly," he wrote. "Having individuals I know openly campaigning against me... has been tough as a man who has had to make his way out of extremely bad circumstances."
