#FreeLilNasX began trending on Monday morning (July 19) as the rapper allegedly prepares to go to court against Nike, which had previously sued MSCHF Product Studio over his illegal bespoke "Satan Shoes." The 22-year-old took advantage of the social media frenzy to announce the release of a new single this week.

Lil Nas' upcoming tune, "Industry Baby," will feature Jack Harlow and be produced by Kanye West and Take A Daytrip. Lil Nas teased the song with a video about the litigation, in which he portrays the presiding judge, his own shoddy defense, a jury member, and the prosecution.

In the video, the prosecutor criticizes Lil Nas' sexuality while interrogating him about his infamous "Satan Shoes."

“This is about far more than shoes, ladies, and gentlemen of the jury,” the prosecutor says as jurors pass around the $1,098 shoes. “Are you homosexual, Mr. Nas X?”

“What does it have to do with the shoes?” says the narrator. Lil Nas responds to the question.

“Permit me to restate the question. “Does your mother know you're gay?” The prosecutor pursues his case once again.

Lil Nas answers, "Yes." The rapper is subsequently sentenced to five years in Montero State Prison, a pun on the title of his next album.

In March, Lil Nas released his “Satan Shoes” in partnership with MSCHF. The sneakers were modified Nike Air Max 97s with a drop of human blood, according to reports. Nike sued MSCHF for trademark infringement after the contentious sneakers went viral, and they were recalled.

Despite the fact that Lil Nas takes the stand in his new promotional video, he is not a defendant in Nike's lawsuit. In April, Nike and MSCHF struck an agreement, so it's unclear why the rapper is suddenly facing legal action over the sneakers.

“All kidding aside, I can't believe I could be going to jail,” he said on Twitter. While I'm abroad, who's going to post somewhat amusing tweets about being gay?”
