Jaime Camil of Schmigadoon teases the season finale.

Camil also shared his opinions on the season finale with Monsters and Critics. Camil stated, "It's a well-rounded programme," while discussing how varied the show is. It's got a lot of heart. There's a lot of comedy in it. But Schmigadoon has all of that plus fantastic music and musical theatre references.” He also referenced to “how deep the programme gets,” highlighting the most recent episode. While Camil didn't want to ruin anything, he did say, "You're going to tear your eyes out."

Jaime Camil has been courting fans of the Apple TV musical-comedy Schmigadoon. This theatre and television actor has joined the cast as Doc Jorge Lopez, the love interest.

Schmigadoon has taken the Broadway world by storm, but Camil believes that it is a "well-rounded" production that is suitable for everyone. Melissa and Josh, played by Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong, are in a long-term relationship with the program. While looking for a romantic excursion to help rekindle their love, the two become stuck in Schmigadoon, a 1940s-style village. There is one major catch: everyone in this wonderful village is singing.

Camil has earned a name for himself in the musical theatre scene, in addition to playing Rogelio de la Vega in the blockbuster comedy-drama Jane the Virgin. He is well known for his roles in West Side Story and Chicago versions.

The family told Monsters and Critics about his love of musical theatre, "It's a gift." We did a little bit on Jane the Virgin, after all. Jennie Urman was gracious enough to compose some singing parts for Rogelio La Vega.”

Camil said, "But he liked the show." I adore the program, he said. I couldn't take my eyes off it. As a result, he's a well-rounded, well-written show. But, of course, it's a plus for those of us theatre addicts who adore musical theatre.”

“It's a plus to be able to sing and dance, especially with Chris [Gattelliexquisite ]'s choreography. And Cinco Paul's lovely music and words. I mean, you know, you do certain projects and work on them. And some of them come from you, from the sky, and that is Schmigadoon.”

Monsters and Critics spoke with Jaime Camil about shooting Schmigadoon during the epidemic and the show’s heartbreaking finale.

Filming Schmigadoon during the pandemic

Camil noted during our chat that he was filming Schmigadoon during “October, November, and December” – all key months during the COVID-19 epidemic. The 48-year-old actor discussed how safety procedures changed the filming process. “We had to follow all of the COVID protocols, and we kept everyone safe,” he explained. We had to follow all of the procedures to the letter, which actually helped us finish the project and keep everyone safe.”

He went on to explain, “The negative is that you didn't get to socialize with your castmates on set.” I wanted to be there when Ariana DeBose performed her incredible classroom routine, for example, or when Kristin Chenoweth did the continuous shot in Trials and Tribulation. I really wanted to be there, but we couldn’t.” However, lightening things up, Camil said, “But, hey, we were working and we pulled it off. And now we’re here.”
