The Miss Universe pageant will be held in Israel for the 70th time.

The Miss Universe Organization announced on Tuesday that the contest will be hosted in Eilat, Israel, in December.

Steve Harvey will take over as host once more.

The three-hour event will be televised live in the United States on Fox, as well as in 180 other countries and territories across the world. It will conclude with Andrea Meza of Mexico, the current Miss Universe, crowning her successor.

Meza, a former software developer, is a strong supporter of women's rights and is encouraging people to obtain the COVID-19 vaccination. Meza invited the media to cover her first immunisation injection in New York shortly after she was awarded, Miss Universe.

Meza said she hopes "as many people as possible" get vaccinated so they may compete in the 70th Miss Universe pageant, according to a statement published by the Miss Universe Organization.

In May, Meza was named Miss Universe, defeating Miss Brazil.

As Meza smiled and took her first steps to the front of the stage, previous champion Zozibini Tunzi placed the crown on her head and waited to see whether it would remain in place.

Tunzi, a public relations specialist who became South Africa's first Black woman to win the competition, had held the title since December 2019. The event was postponed last year owing to the epidemic.

The pageant was presented by Mario Lopez, the presenter of "Access Hollywood," and Olivia Culpo, the 2012 Miss Universe. It was televised live from the Hollywood, Florida-based Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

Paula M. Shugart, president of the Miss Universe Organization, claimed ahead of the pageant that they had spent months organizing a safe competition that followed the same rules as the Miss USA competition held in Memphis last November.
