According to authorities, a man confessed to scamming pop star Kris Wu during a sexual assault controversy.

BEIJING, China (AP) – According to Beijing authorities, a guy admitted to scamming a Chinese-Canadian pop artist, Kris Wu, over a teenager's claim that he had sex with her while she was inebriated.

The statement put an unusual twist to a scandal that lost Wu endorsement relationships with companies such as Porsche and Bulgari. The former member of the Korean boy band EXO has rejected the claim, prompting an outpouring of sympathy for the lady and criticism of Wu on social media.

According to authorities, a guy who heard about the event online contacted the lady in June and got information that allowed him to pose as her lawyer. It made no mention of the lady being accused of participating in the scam.

According to the statement, the guy persuaded Wu's mother to pay her 500,000 yuan ($77,000) and then tried to persuade the lady to transmit the money to him while pretending to be Wu's lawyer. According to the report, he attempted but failed to acquire an extra 2.5 million yuan ($390,000) from the family.

According to a statement issued by the Beijing Public Security Bureau, the guy, known only by the surname Liu, was detained Sunday in Nantong, near Shanghai, after the singer's mother complained to authorities that the family had been scammed. He was alleged to have confessed.

According to the lady, Wu pushed her to drink too much at a party in December and she woke up in his bed, according to the internet portal NetEase. We responded in a statement on his social media account that he met the lady but denied urging her to drink and that other aspects of her allegation were false.

According to the lady, several women informed her Wu lured them with promises of employment and other possibilities.

Police are looking into claims that Wu "repeatedly misled young ladies into sexual relationships," according to a police statement.

The day after the NetEase report, brands severed ties with Wu, demonstrating their sensitivity to public opinion after the ruling Communist Party incited public outrage against shoe and clothing brands in retaliation for Western reports of human rights abuses in the predominantly Muslim region of Xinjiang in the northwest.

Wu, also known as Wu Yifan in Chinese, grew raised in Guangzhou, China, and Vancouver, British Columbia. He was a member of EXO from 2012 until 2014 before embarking on a solo career.
